Certificates Suspension and Revocation

In the event of loss of the DigitalDNA device, the Smart Card or the respective PIN/PUK codes or in the event of inability to access their certificates, the Holder can apply for the suspension or revocation of the certificates.

Suspension

The Suspension procedure is used to temporarily suspend the validity of a certificate before its expiry date. Once the suspension is requested, the certificate loses its validity until the final expiry date or until a request for reactivation is submitted. Consequently, any electronic signature performed with the certificate will also be invalid until reactivation. Suspension is recommended if there are doubts about the security of the certificate or if the device is not going to be used for a long period of time.

Revocation

The Revocation procedure is used to permanently revoke the validity of a Certificate before its expiry date. Once the revocation has been performed, the certificate loses its validity without any reactivation possibility. From that moment, the signatures performed with the certificate will also lose their validity. It is advisable to proceed with revocation in the event of theft, loss, unintentional blocking or breakage of the signature and authentication device.
